Jordan - could this be the first steps towards abolition of the death penalty.
Along with other countries in the region, Jordan takes a hard line on the death penalty and regularly executes (via an unfair and unsafe legal system - see recent AI report).

This recent news article suggests the authorities are considering lessening the use of the death penalty as a first step towards eventual abolition.
